Red, Red Wine………. November 5, 2009
I have to say I woke up a little disappointed in myself this morning. Aside from being a Mets fan that cheered for the Yanks last night (Sorry David Wright- I still want to marry you;-), I am also a runner in training that consumed a little too much of the vino rojo and am definitely feeling its effects today. I am not so much bothered by the fact that I’m totally useless at work right now or that I look like I’m wearing the same clothes from the night before (oh wait, I am. Oops!) but more by the fact that my run yesterday, in a way was canceled out by my four glasses of wine before bed.
Naunie and I did the SUNY loop yesterday; a 3.3 mile run on U Albany’s uptown campus. It was a good run with one of my bests that I completely blew by downing a bottle of one of nature’s best……geesh Pinot Noir, why do you have to taste so good? So after beating myself up all morning over my lack of self control, I’ve decided to stop looking at the bottle as half empty- it’s completely empty because I drank it and according to this 60 Minutes special, that’s okay! Not only is it okay but it is going to help me live longer and look younger…… as if I needed another excuse to over indulge in the smooth texture and elusive aromas of Pinot Noir!
According to the scientists interviewed, the substance resveratrol, found in red wine can significantly extend your life and prevent age related illnesses when consumed in high quantities. Red wine, a fountain of youth? If so, fill up the bath tub baby because I’m going for a swim!
And because I am not above blatant self promotion, for all of you readers motivated by this post and ready to slow down the aging process with a few glasses of the good stuff, stop into DP’s tonight and help me, help you reverse the clock on aging with a little dose of vino. Don’t worry, if you can’t make it tonight, I am there every Thursday night making people look and feel younger one glass at a time!

Captain Mike’s Dive Shop……We Love You!

There have been many times in my life where an outfit has been responsible for making or breaking my day; like that time in 9th grade where I walked through my entire high school with the back of my skirt tucked into my underwear only to be stopped and notified of this humiliating condition by a stuck up upper classman who was more than excited to enlighten me in front of a group of people…..although mortified at the time, the last laugh is mine; home girl, who shall remain nameless, now has a bootie that sags to the floor and a “boyfriend” with a severe phobia of monogamy. But because we promote positivity on this blog, lets leave the talk of my frumpy friend behind and move on to a more uplifting topic- like how absolutely grateful we are to Mark O’Rourke and Captain Mike’s Dive Shop for donating the wetsuits we wore at this weekend’s dunk tank event.
For all of you that don’t know- the water in the dunk tank was a chilly 37 degrees! Without those wetsuits our fundraiser would have been far less enjoyable, maybe even unfathomable. Not only did Mark make the hike to City Island to pick the wetsuits up but he made sure they were styling as well……purple and black! Talk about an outfit making your day. Although Captain Mike’s Dive Shop is located in Island City (Bronx), he does provide gear for Lake George’s Annual Ice Dive so show him some love if you partake in that event and help us pay it forward.
